Mavs' Doncic trained with Curry, will arrive to Dallas next week

After getting drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA draft with the third overall pick, Luka Doncic returned to Croatia to spend time with family, friends and relax.

Doncic did not play in the Las Vegas Summer League, as the Mavericks didn’t want to overwork him in the wake of a long EuroLeague season. Doncic came back to the United States three weeks ago and has "been everywhere," everywhere except Dallas.

"I've been everywhere," Doncic told Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News. "I’ve been to New Jersey, New York, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Portland, Seattle. That’s it. Next week [will be in Dallas]."

Doncic was the Most Valuable Player this past season in the EuroLeague and the MVP of the EuroLeague Final Four. He will be paired in the same backcourt with 20-year-old Dennis Smith Jr. Doncic trained with Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry last week and met Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant Thursday in Portland at the Nike Campus.

The 19-year-old is ready to get to work and says he's looking forward to getting to know his teammates and the Dallas coaching staff.

"I'm excited, can't wait," Doncic told Townsend. "We will get to work now. Get used to new coaches, new teammates. I think that's the most important thing."
