A fix at 26? Cavs have been in this spot in draft three times

Thanks to a trade swung by general manager Koby Altman at the Feb. 7 deadline this season, the Cleveland Cavaliers will have two picks in the first round of the NBA Draft on June 20, their own at No. 5 overall and that of the Houston Rockets at No. 26 overall.

As part of a three-team trade on Feb. 7, Altman sent Wade Baldwin, Nik Stauskas and a 2021 second-round pick to the Rockets and Alec Burks to the Sacramento Kings and in return, received Houston's first-round pick this year along with Knight and Marquese Chriss.

We outlined the players selected in the draft with the fifth overall pick here. When it comes to the 26th pick, the Cavaliers have been here on three occasions.

In 1970 -- their first season in the NBA, the Cavaliers chose Dave Sorenson out of Ohio State University.

Three years later, Cleveland selected another Buckeye, Allan Hornyak.

In 1979, the Cavaliers chose Bruce Flowers out of Notre Dame.

Sorenson, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound power forward, had a solid rookie season, averaging 11.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 24.6 minutes in 79 games, shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 80.3 percent from the free-throw line.

He had this moment in the sun as a member of the Cavaliers:

However, he never again played at that level, playing four more seasons, the last of which being 1972-73, when Cleveland traded him to the Philadelphia 76ers 10 games into the season in exchange for pivotman Bob Rule on Nov. 10, 1972.

Sorenson was in training camp with the Boston Celtics in 1974, where he was competing with Phil Hankinson, Glenn McDonald and Benny Clyde for two roster spots. Eventually, Hankinson and McDonald earned this spots.

He averaged 8.1 points, 4.7 boards and 1.3 assists in 18.1 minutes in 213 games, shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.

Sorenson finished his professional career playing in Italy.

A Findlay, Ohio native, Sorenson died at age 54 on July 9, 2002, after a battle with cancer.

Despite also being drafted by the Indiana Pacers in the 1973 ABA Draft, Hornyak, a 6-1 185-pound shooting guard who earned All-Big Ten honors three times during his collegiate career at Ohio State, never played professional basketball.

Allan Hornyak was a star at Ohio State but never played in the NBA after being drafted by the Cavaliers in 1973.

The Bellaire, Ohio native scored 86 points for St. John Central High School against Tiltonsville Warren Consolidated on Jan. 10, 1969.

Flowers, a 6-8, 225-pound power forward, played only one season in the NBA.

Before that, though, he played professionally in Italy. He was part of the 1982 EuroLeague championship team.

He averaged 4.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in 13.2 minutes in 53 games (5 starts) in the 1982-83 campaign, shooting 53.4 percent from the field and 77.4 percent from the free-throw line.
