Heat suspend veteran guard Waiters for opening night

The Miami Heat have suspended Dion Waiters for the first game of the season, and according to multiple reports, have been looking to trade the veteran shooting guard.

The Heat cited conduct detrimental to the team as the reason for Waiters' suspension.

“There were a number of unacceptable incidents this week, culminating with his unprofessional conduct on the bench last night,” Heat president Pat Riley said in a statement. “As a consequence, I feel we had to suspend him.”

Per Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press, Waiters' suspension could last more than just one game.

Waiters, 27, is 6-foot-4 and averaged 12.0 points in 44 games last season. He has appeared in at least 46 games just once in the previous six seasons.

The Heat open the season Wednesday vs. the Memphis Grizzlies.
