Raptors signing point guard Ponds to two-way contract

The defending champion Toronto Raptors are signing undrafted point guard Shamorie Ponds to a two-way contract, according to Blake Murphy of The Athletic.

Ponds is 6-foot-1 and stood out at St. John's before being passed over in the draft in June. He was waived by the Houston Rockets over the weekend.

He averaged 19.7 points and 5.1 points as a junior with the Red Storm last season. He appeared in three preseason games with the Rockets and averaged 2.3 points.

The Raptors filled their other two-way spot by signing forward Oshae Brissett earlier in the day. Both Ponds and Brissett are likely to spend most of their time in the G League.
