Rockets would have interest in Matthews, traded to Knicks

Now that the trade deadline has officially begun with the mega deal Thursday between the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks, everyone is waiting for the next chip to fall and waiting to see what's next on the NBA landscape.

The Knicks, who sent Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Courtney Lee to the Mavs, got a player in return they probably won't keep around very long, that being Wesley Matthews.

Matthews, along with DeAndre Jordan and Dennis Smith Jr. were the three players that came back to the Knicks from Dallas, and from all indications Matthews along with Jordan could both be brought out by the Knicks.

New York wants to stay in the mix for a high lottery pick and continue to give young players chances, so keeping Matthews and Jordan around does not fit their current team structure.

With that, Matthews will draw attention from a number of teams, with one team that will have high interest being the Houston Rockets.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reports that the "Rockets are searching for 3-and-D help and would have interest in Wesley Matthews in the buyout market, according to league sources."

In 44 games with Dallas this season, Matthews is averaging 13.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.8 steals in just under 30 minutes per game.

He's solid three-point land, hitting 38 percent from beyond the arc, something that would be a huge selling point for the Rockets if they were to add him.

Look for the 32-year-old veteran to be a solid addition to any team, and the depth he would add to the Rockets would help them, so don't be surprised if they look to add him if in fact the Knicks buy him out.
