Why LaVar jumping into trade conversation was perfect timing for Lonzo

The NBA trade talks ahead of Thursday's trade deadline have easily been the most entertaining part about the NBA -- including the games as of late.

With twists and turns happening at a minute's notice, the snooze fest of this year's Super Bowl even had NBA players praying for new information from its most trusted insiders.

Now, to add to the drama and chaos which is this past week, is LaVar Ball, father of Lakers starting point guard, Lonzo Ball, has thrust himself smack dab in the middle of deal to send his son to the New Orleans Pelicans along with a haul of players and picks.

Not so fast.

According to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, Ball has gone on record stating New Orleans is not a preferred landing spot for Lonzo. The desire to play in Los Angeles remains number one, however, should a deal have to happen, the Phoenix Suns would be the top priority for the second year player.

That's right, a week that included Anthony Davis publicly requesting a trade via his agent, Rich Paul (who happens to be LeBron James' agent and close friend), a $50,000 fine slapped on Davis' back for making this request public, and now Ball, who has largely been quiet this year while his youngest son, LaMelo is dazzling in high school gyms, has added fuel to a fire that presumably was beginning to dwindle with Magic Johnson's latest offer. Whew... did you get all that?

But, the decision to speak was necessary and apropos giving the situation. James is helping to push his agenda with creating the team he wants and players he desires to play with. Adding a superstar to pair with him allows him to compete right now for championships in the tough Western Conference. LaVar, understanding this, knows the time is now to usurp Johnson and James and look out for what is best for Lonzo given what he will be traded to.

With a deal that includes Rajon Rondo -- who had great success with the Pelicans, and is still playing at a high level as a starting point guard -- along with Elfrid Payton on the roster, that is two highly capable starting point guards on the roster along with Lonzo.

The Suns, who are in desperate need of a point guard, could use Lonzo to pair with Devin Booker, who is still just 22 years old, and potential superstar rookie, DeAndre Ayton.

Pelicans' GM, Dell Demps, will now have added pressure to include a third team being the Ball camp has now made this national news that Lonzo does not want to be there, and may indeed force their way out should this happen.

With just over 48 hours until this is over, don't be surprised to see more madness come out. And with LaVar now in the mix, anything can happen.
