BREAKING: 6x NBA All-Star Announces Retirement

A potential future Hall of Famer has retired.

One of the greatest Clippers players in franchise history has retired today. 6x NBA All-Star, Blake Griffin, has announced his retirement from the NBA today.

"I never envisioned myself as the guy who would have a 'letter to basketball' retirement announcement... and I'm still not going to be that guy," Griffin said in his retirement announcement. "But as I reflected on my career, the one feeling I kept coming back to and the one thing I wanted to express was thankfulness."

Stats-wise, Blake Griffin may not be the greatest Clippers player in franchise history. However, he's easily the most important player in Clippers franchise history. Without Blake Griffin, a vast majority of Clippers fans would have never been exposed to the team in 2010. Without Blake Griffin, Chris Paul likely wouldn't join the Clippers in 2011. Without Blake Griffin, the Clippers don't get anywhere near as popular as they are now, and without Blake Griffin, the Clippers likely don't have the assets to acquire Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

While Blake Griffin and the Clippers organization clearly sill aren't on the friendliest of terms, retiring his jersey in the Intuit Dome would be the appropriate thing for the franchise to do. Maybe, by giving him the franchise's first jersey retirement in their new arena, will some fences be mended between the two sides.
