After averaging 24 points last season, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards earned a spot on the Team USA roster for the first time in his career.

Now, because memes are officially the new trend on social media and particularly in sports, it wouldn’t be right to not have one. On Tuesday, a meme went viral via Twitter of something that could spark rumors soon. It showed Edwards giving Miami Heat coach Spoelstra, a Team USA assistant, a discreet look at training camp. Above the picture, it read “Anthony Edwards looking at Spo like he wants to play with his half-brother Jimmy Butler in the future”.

Even though memes are meant for the sole purpose of being creative and having fun, this one could be taken seriously.

With the Heat unsure if they can land Portland Trail Blazers’ guard Damian Lillard, they still need a big-name star. With Edwards entering the last year of his four-year contract, they might be in a position to grab him if Lillard falls through.

If a miracle happens and they are able to acquire Edwards in free agency, it could be a great deal. His scoring abilities fits right in with the Heat. The only downside is his lack of defense, something they might want to consider looking into.

It’s still very early but this is a rumor that can develop over time.
