Heat vs. Thunder Takeaways: Miami's Roster Overpowered By Thunder's Offense In The Loss

The Oklahoma City Thunder walked away on Wednesday evening victorious against the Miami Heat

The Miami Heat put up a solid effort against the No. 2 seed Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, but fell short 128-120.

Here's a look at five major takeaways:

1. Miami's roster was overpowered by the Thunder's offense in the loss.

The Heat are often praised for their shooting consistency, but Oklahoma City's offense was superior. Miami entered the third quarter with a four-point lead but lost by eight. The Thunder shot 59.3 percent and 42.4 percent from three-point range. Forward Jalen Williams was a single rebound shy of a triple double, while stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren combined for 51 points. This matchup speaks volumes about the Thunder's talent rather than Miami's issues.

2. Tyler Herro must improve his efficiency.

Unfortunately for Heat fans, the former Sixth Man of the Year is having continuous struggles with his efficiency. He performed well in the win against the Houston Rockets, but scored 17 points on 7 of 21 shooting in tonight's contest. It's important to note that Herro made solid contributions on defense with three steals.

3. Bam Adebayo's breakout season is not a fluke.

The two-time All-Star center is known for his defense, but his step-up on the offensive side of the ball is what stands out. Adebayo concluded the night with 25 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks on 56.3 percent shooting. He is the cornerstone of Miami's roster for the present and future.

4. Nikola Jovic continues to impress in an increased role.

Coach Erik Spoelstra received criticism early in the year for the amount of playing time Jovic received. The disapproval is at an end, as the Serbian forward was on the floor for 32 minutes. He scored 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists on 62.5 percent shooting.

5. Haywood Highsmith showed flashes on the offensive end.

Highsmith is known for his talent as a lockdown defender on the perimeter and in the paint. However, the 6-foot-7 forward is showcasing improvements on offense this season. He recorded 19 points and five rebounds on 50 percent shooting and 5 of 7 shooting from beyond the arc.
