A jersey retirement. A Hall of Fame induction. All that’s missing now is a statue for Miami Heat icon Dwyane Wade.

Even though he had minor stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls, Wade played the majority of his career with the Heat. When he got selected by them in the 2003 draft, their championship hopes rose.

In just his third year, he sketched his name onto the list of all-time Heat greats. During the 2006 playoffs, he led them to the their first championship by averaging 34 points against Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks

The highlight performance was Game 3 when he scored 15 fourth-quarter points, helping the Heat avoid a 0-3 deficit. Wade was later named Finals MVP.

Five years later, he was joined by LeBron James and Chris Bosh, forming the “Big Three”. Even though he took a backseat to James, they made four straight playoff appearances from 2011-2014 and won back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

Wade knows the value he brought to the franchise. In June 2023, an interview went viral of Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay. During the interview, Wade discussed getting a statue in Miami.

"When you get done playing this game, hopefully, the goal is to become a statue right?” Wade said. “Like you want to play and become a statue because the greats have a statue, Michael Jordan had a statue right? And so yes, I want those accolades because I saw others have them but there's also a part of me too that's like, that's man-given. It can be taken away by man right. I don't like getting things that can be taken away by man. So I don't celebrate those and I don't look for those because it's temporary."

Though there hasn’t been any recent news on it, Wade deserves a statue outside of Kaseya Center.
