Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo Dodges Fine When Asked About Free Throw Disparity Against Denver Nuggets In Game 1

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo avoids questions about officiating in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

The Miami Heat’s lopsided loss to the Denver Nuggets has many searching for an explanation.

Some are highlighting the free throw discrepancy, which favored Denver 20-2 in Game 1. The Heat's attempts were the fewest in a playoff game. This can be attributed to good defense without fouling but others may blame officiating.

When asked about the calls, center Bam Adebayo avoided answering to dodge any fines.

“If I do say something, will you take the fine,” Adebayo said.

Adebayo instead assessed the team’s shooting Thursday night, saying they got good looks but just couldn’t knock them down. The team’s jump shots put them away from the rim, which can explain the lack of free throws.

“I just feel like we can't even get into that,” Adebayo said. “We can't let them dictate the game. I just feel like we took a lot of jump shots and we missed a lot of them instead of getting to the basket. Like I said, we're going to watch film and get back to the drawing board.”

Adebayo then jokingly pointed the finger back at the reporter, saying, “Why he don't get fined for saying that?”

Regardless of officiating, the Heat need to prepare for Denver Sunday night. Going down 2-0 in the series puts pressure on them being flawless at home. Max Strus, Gabe Vincent and Duncan Robinson went 2 of 23 from the field. This lackluster shooting display is unlikely to repeat, leaving fans optimistic for Game 2.
