While the wait for Damian Lillard continues, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo has another reason to be happy.

One of his close friends, Josh Richardson, signed with the Heat this summer. Adebayo expressed his happiness on Saturday at his fifth annual youth basketball clinic at SLAM Miami Charter School.

“They brought back one of my brothers,” he said. “It feels good to see where we were with our friendship when he left and to get to his point where we can rekindle it and start fresh again. We’re two different people from when I first walked into the league and then when he got traded. So it’s good to have a brother back. We know what he brings to the team, we know what we need from him. I feel like J-Rich is one of the most disciplined people when it comes to basketball, life and all other aspects.”

Richardson was selected by the Heat as the 40th pick in the 2015 draft. He spent four seasons with them before playing with the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs and New Orleans Pelicans. With the Heat, he averaged 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Adebayo and Richardson kept a tight relationship during their respective careers.

When Richardson was traded to the 76ers in 2019, Adebayo posted a heartfelt tribute to him on Instagram saying “Love No Matter What HMMMM Broski, Ima Miss You Homie 💙”

During Game 1 of the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics, Adebayo came up with a huge block on Jayson Tatum, prompting Richardson to tweet “Yes BAM” on Twitter.

This close brotherhood could have a positive effect on the Heat’s season.
