Should The Miami Heat Pursue Tyus Jones?

The Miami Heat should be eyeing Washington Wizards guard Tyus Jones amidst potential trade rumors.

As the Washington Wizards continue their rebuild, one name floating around to potentially be traded is veteran guard Tyus Jones.

The Miami Heat should be at the top of the list to acquire him. They are lacking backcourt production, especially in the absence of star guard Tyler Herro and the injury to Dru Smith. Jones would be a perfect acquisition for the Heat as they continue building on their solid start to the season.

“[Jones] is another guy a lot of contenders are going to be watching,” one Eastern Conference said to Heavy Sports. “If you’re the Heat, they’re looking at him, when it comes time to add a guard, which I think everyone expects they’ll do. He is a tough guy, he will come off the bench, he will do whatever the role you want filled is. He is a little bit of a bulldog."

The Wizards guard is averaging 10.6 points on 49 percent shooting, with 2.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists. He would give Miami depth behind Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson. He is a solid defender and decent scorer, something the Heat embrace in the point guard position.

Even for Lowry's breakout performance and Robinson's solid start to the season, it's hard to imagine they will sustain this level of play going forward. Jones could provide some relief to the starters or potentially start if he remains consistent.

Miami also wouldn't need a ton of draft capital to acquire Jones, which falls right in line with the organization's typical small acquisitions.
