Tim Hardaway Sr. Calls For His Son To Join The Miami Heat

Is Tim Hardaway Jr. a future possibility for the Miami Heat?

Tim Hardaway Sr. revealed that he has been trying to get his son, Tim Hardaway Jr. to join the Miami Heat.

Hardaway Sr. joined The OGs Show Tuesday with former Heat players, Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller. Hardaway Sr. was asked about the possibility of his son, Tim Hardaway Jr. ever suiting up for the Heat.

“I’ve been trying to get him in a Heat jersey,” Hardaway Sr. answered the question. He continued on by saying “You are not going to wear my jersey.” Hardaway Sr.’s “10” has hung in the rafter of the Kaseya Center since 2009.

Hardaway Jr. began wearing his father’s number 10 this season with the Dallas Mavericks. He has played for the Mavericks since being traded there at the 2019 trade deadline. Hardaway Jr. has been a productive player off the bench. He is averaging 17.3 points this year, the third most on the team.

Hardaway Jr. is under contract through the 2024-25 season. The Heat would either have to wait until next offseason to sign him or trade for him before then. Hardaway Jr. would slot in as a sparkplug off the bench. His role would be similar to Tyler Herro’s in 2021-22 when he won the Sixth Man Of The Year Award.

There were rumors of the Heat trading for Hardaway Jr at the most recent trade deadline. The team will already be above the salary cap next season, meaning that the Heat would have to shed salary if they wanted to acquire Hardaway Jr. One option would be to trade Duncan Robinson, who will be making just shy of $20 million in 2024-25.
