In this story:

On the second day of free agency Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Dennis Smith Jr agreed to a one-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

Dennis Smith Jr was a fan favorite and one of the few bright spots from the 22-23 NBA season. Smith was an unrestricted free agent meaning he can sign anywhere, it's unclear at this stage to what extent Charlotte tried to re-sign him

Analysis

The Charlotte Hornets now have a clear need for a back-up veteran point guard behind LaMelo Ball. That is unless they feel Rozier will be staggered more behind LaMelo Ball as the team's point guard or if the team are confident young players such as Nick Smith Jr or Amari Bailey are ready to play right away, but that seems unlikely.

The best free agent point guards still available on the market are Patrick Beverely, Corey Joseph, Jordan McLaughlin, George Hill, Ayo Dosunmu, John Wall, Ish Smith
