Hornets Exercise Third-Year Team Option on Mark Williams

Mark Williams option has been exercised.

The Charlotte Hornets announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have exercised the third-year option on Mark Williams' contract. The second-year starting center will be around for at least another season.

Williams was selected with the 15th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, and impressed in limited action during his rookie season. Playing in only 43 of 82 games during his rookie season, Williams averaged nine points and seven rebounds while playing exceptional defense at the rim.

The sophomore out of Duke is averaging 11 points and 8.3 rebounds with a steal and a block to boot through three games of the 2023-24 season. The former Blue Devil is lauded for his interior defense and his presence in the paint has been a sight for the sore eyes of those who have watched the Hornets for the past few seasons.

Williams is clearly in the long-term plans of the Hornets and it would be a surprise to nobody if a contract extension comes in the summer of 2025.
