Kyrie Irving Requests Trade Out of Brooklyn

The Nets star wants to be moved.

It wasn't long ago that the Brooklyn Nets looked to be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference for years to come when they signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and then traded for James Harden.

The Harden experience didn't last long as he ended up being involved in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers and now, Irving wants out as well. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Irving has put in a request to be traded.

In four seasons with the Nets, the former Duke star has averaged 27.1 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 48% from the field and 38% from three-point range?

How could this impact the Charlotte Hornets?

Well, playoff contending teams in search of backcourt help are going to make a stronger push for Irving than they would Terry Rozier, for obvious reasons. Not only is Irving a bigger impact player but he's also on the final year of his current deal, whereas Rozier is locked up through the 2025-26 season and is due an average of $24.3 million per year during that span.

Secondly, if he is traded outside of the East, it will certainly make the Nets not as much of a factor moving forward which is good news for a young rebuilding team like the Hornets.

The trade deadline is February 9th.
