Jazz Ready for 'Big Game Hunting' this Offseason per Danny Ainge

The Utah Jazz could be making a splash in the trade market this summer.

This upcoming offseason could be extremely busy for the Utah Jazz and their fans. The Jazz held a press conference on Tuesday morning starring Jazz CEO Danny Ainge. Ainge had a lot to say and had some interesting quotes for Jazz fans to monitor going into this offseason. One that stood out was Ainge making it clear that tanking the 2024-25 season is not on the table.

“We’re ready to go big game hunting,” Ainge said.

This is no surprise to Jazz fans due to what Utah Jazz beat writer Tony Jones of The Athletic said when he joined the Jackpotting Around: A Utah Jazz Podcast in February.

“The Jazz were in on a guy that, I absolutely 100% cannot say the name, if they had made that trade they would have been a buyer,” Jones said. “It was not Dejounte Murray. The Jazz never got past an exploratory conversation for Murray. There was a guy; it would have been a buy, and he was pretty off the grid. He’s a really good player. The Jazz were about 60 to 65 percent down the road to that, and it just kind of fell apart. There was a lot of stuff that had to happen. That was the only buy trade they were in past Tuesday. Everything else was in sell mode. If they would have done that trade it would have been interesting times for sure.”

Ainge echoed Jones's comments regarding trading for a game-changer at the February 8 deadline.

"We felt like we were close once in this process [with a trade] that would have changed the dynamic of our team immediately. The direction would have been much more clear."

Whether or not these two statements are linked to the same player or deal remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the Jazz will be looking to add talent to the roster this offseason. As Ainge said, they are going after big-name players and talent. It will be something for Jazz fans to monitor as the offseason approaches.
