Former Jazz All-Star Donovan Mitchell Speaks On All-NBA Snub

Cavaliers’ All-Star Donovan Mitchell added some more context to his ‘FOH’ tweet from earlier this offseason.

Within just one year removed from being dealt from the Utah Jazz, Donovan Mitchell decided to have one of the best seasons of his career on his new squad. He was the unquestioned leader of the team that brought the Cleveland Cavaliers back to the playoffs for the first time since LeBron was in town. Statistically, he averaged a 28/4/4 line on some respectable 48/38/86 splits, all on a top-four seed in the East. All of these achievements meriting him a:

Second team All-NBA appearance...

It’s safe to say he was not happy with these results when announced, because who would be?:

Fast forward a few weeks, we just saw Mitchell give a little more context to the tweet in an interview with Rosalyn Gold-Onwude of Sideline Stroll this Thursday:

"I just felt that I should have been (All-NBA) First Team. So that’s one of my goals for next year, to be First Team. And I felt like I was good enough, but obviously the media members did not."

He has a point too. The two guards selected over him (Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander & Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic) failed to position their team in the playoffs.

All-NBA selections have notoriously had a large emphasis on team success, and for not only one, but two guards to make it over Mitchell is a bit odd. Granted, both had a slight statistical advantage, but in terms of the best guards on more successful teams in the league this season, Don was among the best.

However, last season was last season. Next season, Mitchell will have another shot to improve upon an already great 2022-23 campaign, and it seems as if he’s taking it in stride.
