The Utah Jazz have decided to make a change to their coaching staff. According to HoopsHype, the Jazz have promoted Salt Lake City Stars' coach Scott Morrison from the G-League back up to the NBA as an assistant for the team.

The Stars managed to have a respectable regular season while under Morrison in 2022-23. He ended up leading the team to a 20-12 record, good enough to be the fourth-best team in the West. Notable names such as 2017 second-round pick, Frank Jackson, and current two-way player, Johnny Juzang were the ones to lead the way this past season.

We already knew before this news that a change or promotion within the coaching staff was to be expected. Based on the news of assistants Alex Jensen and Irv Roland departing from the Jazz, there were openings that needed to be filled. As a result, Utah decided to bring in the leader of their G-League affiliate.

The move makes a little more sense when you consider Morrison has a previous history within the Boston Celtics' organization, just like coach Hardy and team CEO, Danny Ainge. While Morrison and Hardy never coached together simultaneously, Morrison was pretty successful in his time with Boston. So much so that Ainge wanted to bring the coach with him to Utah.

He secured Coach of the Year honors for their G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, back in 2015 before moving up to be an assistant coach for the Celtics for four years in 2017. Now, we'll get the chance to see what Morrison is able to bring to the next level, this time alongside last season's stand-out rookie head coach, Will Hardy.
