The Utah Jazz head to the City of Angels on Wednesday to face off against the Los Angeles Lakers in a game that will be nationally televised on TNT. Both teams head into the contest with key contributors unable to suit up.

The Lakers will be without ex-Jazzman Jarred Vanderbilt, while Jazz starting center Walker Kessler will be sidelined with an elbow injury. Also, LeBron James (calf) is listed as questionable, and Anthony Davis (hip) is probable.

The game tonight has huge implications regarding the in-season tournament. Winning the game by at least 12 points would give Utah the advantage over the Lakers in both the head-to-head and point differential tiebreakers. A loss would eliminate Utah from the tournament.

Despite a record of 4-9, things are looking up for the Jazz. The Jazz are 2-2 in their last four games, with the two setbacks going down to the wire against the Phoenix Suns. The games have been much more competitive since Jazz head coach Will Hardy tweaked the rotation.

Newcomers Keyonte George and John Collins are a big reason for the recent success. Inserting George into the starting lineup has helped in the turnover department. Over the last four games, Utah has averaged 14 turnovers a game, which is down from its 17.3 average.

At an efficient clip, Collins is showing Utah he’s back to shooting from long-distance range. Currently, he’s hitting 44.7% of his three-point shots and coming off a year where he only shot 29.2%.

The oddsmakers have the Lakers pegged as a 7.5-point favorite. The tip-off is at 8:00 MST.
