The Utah Jazz fell prey to the New York Knicks 118-103 last night at Madison Square Garden. These teams are currently headed in opposite directions as the Jazz surrendered their second consecutive contest loss while the Knicks were victorious for the eighth consecutive time.

The Jazz remain in playoff contention with a team record of 24-25 and will need to take advantage of the upcoming home schedule. The Knicks are more than playoff-safe, ranking third in the Eastern Conference standings.

Now, let's dissect this game's big winner and loser at the individual level.

Collin Sexton | Winner

The Jazz once again lacked competitive energy as a team, but Sexton was all systems go. He led the Jazz in scoring with 22 points and assists with seven. Although New York guard Jalen Brunson tossed in 29 points, Sexton accepted the challenge and left his intense efforts on the floor. It's a pretty safe assumption that Sexton is the hardest-working Jazzman on the roster.

He performs both offensively and defensively intensely and never concedes to any opponent. Jazz Nation can only hope that this young man is part of the long-term future and won't be traded.

For young kids learning to play basketball, devote some time to watching Sexton play. His spirit and determination may make you think about how serious your level of commitment may be.

Jordan Clarkson | Loser

Clarkson has not looked totally engaged lately and seems a bit disconnected from the fun of the game. Sure, this is a job, but if your occupation has no fun, the productivity or lack thereof speaks loud and clear.

Clarkson logged 31 minutes and scored 11 points. Double-figure scoring is a welcome sight to any NBA score sheet, but he also committed three turnovers and posted a game-low -19 rating.

Clarkson's body language sent negative vibes from a viewing perspective, and I wonder if the trade deadline contributes to this low-performance level. He is one of the best sixth-man reserves in the league, and coach Will Hardy is giving him the green light to produce positive outcomes.

The Jazz will now receive a much-needed home game as they prepare to battle the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night at 8:00 PM. A win will likely keep the Jazz in the playoffs, but a loss may drop them from the conversation.
