More names around the NBA continue to swirl in trade rumors and discussions as we approach the looming February 8th deadline. This time, it’s the New York Knicks getting involved with a potential mover on their roster: Quentin Grimes.

According to a report from Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks may be open to trading Grimes in the coming weeks, with the Utah Jazz being among a group of teams noted to have some interest in the 2022 first-round pick.

The Knicks may trade Quentin Grimes ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline, as he’ll certainly draw interest from opposing teams. The Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Utah Jazz, and Houston Rockets are among the teams with interest in the 23-year-old shooting guard... Grimes lost his starting job to Donte DiVincenzo earlier this season, and his minutes off the bench have fluctuated. I don’t know if the Knicks will ultimately pull the trigger on a deal involving Grimes, but he has value on the market, and it may be in both parties’ best interest to find a trade. One of the Knicks’ objectives at the deadline is to bolster their bench, and Grimes is one of the most valuable trade-eligible players on their roster.

Grimes has seen a bit of a decrease in tick during his third season pro. Just a season ago, he was averaging out to around 30 minutes a night, while this year, it sits at just under 20. In 39 games played, he’s averaged 6.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists.

It’s not a shock to see the Jazz get involved with Grimes, considering there was previous interest in him only a couple of offseasons ago during the Donovan Mitchell trade talks with New York. Ultimately, the Knicks opted not to include him in any deal involving Spida, which effectively killed those talks, sending him to the Cleveland Cavaliers instead.

The coming deadline now presents a new opportunity for Utah to get involved in acquiring him, depending on what the asking price may be. If the Jazz can offload expiring contracts and minimal draft assets in acquiring him, it could be a very real possibility to see Danny Ainge heavily consider this type of deal.

Grimes could prove to be a low-risk, high-reward acquisition for Utah, still on his rookie scale contract for this season and next. He can provide ample spacing and scoring ability with the chance to elevate into a more substantial role on this young Jazz roster.

Expect some more rumblings to shake out involving the Jazz and their trade status as the heavily-anticipated deadline continues to near.
