Kings Star Duo Combine for 75 in 125-130 Loss to Suns

Despite shining performances from their stars, the Kings fell short in Phoenix.

In a battle between two Pacific Division powerhouses, the Phoenix Suns defended their home court in a 130-125 win over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, getting past the most impressive showing of the season from Sacramento's star duo.

The Kings All-Star snub tandem of De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis absolutely dominated the Suns on Tuesday, combining for 75 of Sacramento's 125 points. Fox finished with 40 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals, while Sabonis stuffed the stat sheet with 35 points, 18 rebounds, 12 assists, and three blocks.

Sabonis, an MVP candidate, was omitted from the All-Star game but has been on a tear, notching his third consecutive triple-double and 18th on the season. Sabonis leads the league in triple-doubles and double-doubles (49) by a wide margin, beating Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic in both statistical categories.

The Suns were led by superstar Kevin Durant with 29 points, Devin Booker with 25, and sixth man Eric Gordon with 23. As a team, Phoenix shot 29-36 from the stripe, which was ultimately a deciding factor in the game.

The Kings had multiple opportunities to pull away and steal the win in Phoenix but fell short in the end. Fox, Sabonis, and Malik Monk having one of their best-combined games of the season and still taking a loss should hurt the Kings, but Fox dropping just his second 40+ point game of 2024 could be an indicator of better things to come.

Getting their star point guard out of a scoring slump is a priority, and Fox seemed to have broken through the ice in Phoenix. With a tough stretch ahead, the Kings need more games like his from their stars.
