Kings' Wes Wilcox Listed as Candidate for Hornets Opening

The Hornets could have their eyes on Sacramento's assistant GM.

After nearly two decades of disappointment, the Sacramento Kings have turned their franchise around and become one of the most impressive teams in the Western Conference. The turnaround has stemmed from one of the best front offices in the NBA, led by general manager Monte McNair and assistant general manager Wes Wilcox.

Coaching and front office positions in the NBA can often come and go, and Wilcox could soon be on his way out with a new opportunity ashore.

The Charlotte Hornets have announced their president of basketball operations, Mitch Kupchak, has stepped down to become an organizational advisor. While it is difficult for a team to fill this type of role, the Hornets are expected to fill the position by the end of the regular season, with Wilcox on the list of potential candidates, per ESPN

Wilcox was hired as Sacramento's assistant general manager in 2020 after spending eight years with the Atlanta Hawks, including two years as Atlanta's general manager.

Wilcox comes up as a top candidate for Charlotte's opening because of his experience with new Hornets owner Rick Schnall, as the two spent time together in Atlanta.

If a deal with Charlotte were to come to life, Wilcox leaving would be a tough loss for Sacramento but an impressive step for the assistant general manager.
