NBA Mock Draft: Knicks Take 'Do-It-All' PG Trey Alexander
The New York Knicks are approaching a down period, but that doesn't mean they aren't thinking about the future.
It's never too early to talk about next year's NBA Draft, where the Knicks have two first-round picks. In CBS Sports' 2024 mock draft, the Knicks select USC point guard Bronny James with the No. 13 pick acquired from Dallas in the Kristaps Porzingis trade, but New York jumps back into the draft with their regular scheduled pick at 19th, selecting Creighton shooting guard Trey Alexander.
"Alexander tested the NBA Draft waters and showed well at the combine before returning to Creighton," CBS Sports' Kyle Boone writes. "With Ryan Nembhard off to Gonzaga, he could be in line to see an expanded role on the ball showcasing his do-it-all skill set."
Alexander, 20, started all 37 games for Creighton last season, averaging 13.6 points per game, a considerable jump from his 7.4 from his freshman campaign. He also shot 41 percent from beyond the three-point line, which should certainly be a stat of interest for the Knicks. During the regular season, New York was tied for 19th in three-point shooting with a 35.4 percent success rate. That number dipped further in the playoffs and was a big reason behind their second-round elimination at the hands of the Miami Heat.
As a junior, Alexander has the potential to build a case to become a first-round pick if he can continue growing at the rate he did last year.
