The New York Knicks ended the Cleveland Cavaliers' season on Wednesday night in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Someone else's season, however, also came to a conclusion.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Knicks' second-year center Jericho Sims has undergone shoulder surgery, which will keep him out for the remainder of the postseason.

Sims, 24, averaged 3.4 points and 4.7 rebounds this season in 52 appearances with the Knicks. He also started 16 games for the team and also appeared in the Slam Dunk Contest during the NBA All-Star break.

The second-round pick from the 2021 draft filled in serviceably for the team's regular top center Mitchell Robinson, who missed a good chunk of the season with a thumb injury.

With Sims removed from the rotation, the Knicks have employed a two-center plan starring Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein. Robinson performed well against All-Star Jarrett Allen, especially in Game 5 with an 18-rebound, 13-point performance to clinch advancement to the second round.

Sims, who last appeare during the Knicks' consequence-free final stretch of the regular season wasn't expected to play a key role late in the playoffs, but any loss of depth in the postseason is noteworthy, especially after Julius Randle sprained his ankle last night and Quentin Grimes hurt his shoulder earlier in the series.

With the injuries piling up for the Knicks, New York cannot afford to be any more hurt going into a series with the uber-physical Miami Heat, which begins Sunday (1 p.m. ET, ABC).
