NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks’ Evan Fournier Moving Out?

Evan Fournier is entering the third year of his four-year contract with the New York Knicks.

After seeing his role dwindle in 2023, New York Knicks shooting guard Evan Fournier may have played his last minutes for the franchise.

Bleacher Report predicted one move for each team this offseason and has the Knicks trading Fourier.

"Many thought Evan Fournier might be traded ahead of the 2023 deadline, but he remained a New York Knick through their second-round loss to the Miami Heat," Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey writes. "This summer, though, they'll actually make the move."

Fournier signed a four-year deal worth $73 million with the Knicks in the 2021 offseason. In 2022, Fournier started 80 games and averaged 14.1 points per game. Those numbers dropped precipitously last season, as he only played in 27 games and started in seven of them, losing the top role to second-year man Quentin Grimes early on.

The French guard only scored 6.1 points per game after making just five appearances over the final 30 games of the regular season. New York's all-time leader in single-season three-pointers was blunt about his chances of returning ... or lack thereof ... shortly after the team's playoff run ended, claiming he'd"be very surprised if they did."

Fournier is due just under $19 million in the 2024 season but with a team option for the following season, New York should be able to find a suitor.

"Fournier's contract ends in 2025, but that last season is a team option," Bailey writes. "It's essentially an expiring contract right now. And with the new collective bargaining agreement likely to change the courses of a few teams, someone will be interested in that deal and the future flexibility it brings."

Fournier is essentially entering the final year of his contract with New York in 2024. With no foreseeable path to meaningful playing time, it'd likely benefit both parties to go their separate ways.
