Copper Stopper: Liberty's Winning Streak Ends in Chicago Fire

The New York Liberty were unable to seal a weekend sweep against the Chicago Sky, losing a 19-point lead in a heartbreaking defeat at home.

NEW YORK-The Sky's the limit for the new-look New York Liberty ... at least it was on Sunday when it came to extending an early winning streak.

An early MVP case for Kahleah Copper and a fourth quarter breakout paced by Courtney Williams allowed the Chicago Sky to avenge a Friday night loss on their home court, ending New York's four-game winning streak with an 86-82 triumph at Barclays Center on Sunday afternoon. Wasted in the New York effort was a lead that reached as high as 19 and a near-triple-double effort for Courtney Vandersloot against her former Midwestern compatriots (18 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds).

Copper. one of the leftovers from the Sky's championship from 2021 that also enjoyed Vandersloot's multi-faceted antics, had 28 points in the win while Williams' late prowess helped seal the deal. Chicago (4-3) outscored the Liberty 30-17 in the fourth quarter and 56-35 in the second half after New York (4-2) scored the first 13 points of the game.

Further wasted in New York's defeat was a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double from Breanna Stewart. She became the fourth New Yorker to earn 10 of each in at least three consecutive games, joining Tina Charles (7 times), Tari Phillips (2000), and Natasha Howard (2022).

The Liberty's first chance to start a new streak comes on Wednesday night when the Minnesota Lynx come to visit (7 p.m. ET, YES App).
