D'Angelo Russell Gets Honest About His Future With The Lakers

Will D'Angelo Russell remain on the Los Angeles Lakers long term?

The Lakers point guard has become a core part of the team since re-joining the Lakers when he was traded to the Lakers from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the middle of the 2022-2023 season. He ensured he would stay with the Lakers for the near future this summer when he signed a two-year contract with the team, but Russell has yet to be locked up long-term.

For his part, Russell said he'd "love" to stay with the Lakers in a recent interview. Before his return to the Lakers, Russell had made his rounds across the NBA during stints with the Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets.

“I’d love to be here and continue to give it a run and be where my feet are now," Russell said, via Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype. "Obviously, I’ve been on the other side of it, and I’ve been through the roller coaster of free agency and having to sit back and wait. I’m looking forward to not having to worry about that. I’ve been blessed enough to put myself in this position with my play. I’m definitely planning on taking advantage of that. When that time comes, I feel that everything will play out how it’s supposed to play out.”

There's no guarantee that Russell will stay after this season, but if the Lakers do want to keep him, Russell has been proving his worth to the team this year. He is averaging 18.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists for the Lakers. Russell has scored over 20 points in three of his last four games, including a 29-point game for the Lakers on Tuesday as they rallied to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks.
