Former Laker Named 2024 G League Defensive Player Of The Year

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Shaquille Harrison won a massive award as a G League South Bay Lakers member. Harrison has been named the 2023-2024 Kia NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year. NBA Communications announced via X.

South Bay Lakers guard Shaquille Harrison has been named the 2023-24 Kia NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year. He earned the honor in a vote by the league’s 31 head coaches and general managers.

This is the second time in three seasons Harrison has won the award. He previously won it in 2021-2022 as a member of the Delaware Blue Coats, the Phildpehia 76ers G League affiliate. He is the second member of the South Bay Lakers to win the award. The first to do so was Stephane Lasme in 2007-2008.

In 34 games this season, Harrison averaged 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.5 assists and a league-best 2.9 steals in 34.1 minutes of action. The 30-year-old signed with the Lakers in early April 2023 and was with the team during eight games in the playoffs. He was waived in late June 2023.

After signing a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in August 2023, he was waived by Memphis in October and ended up signing with the South Bay Lakers in November. Harrison was a monster on the court for the South Bay Lakers.
