Lakers News: Magic Johnson Lets Slip That Showtime Teammate Has Made Hall Of Fame

Another Laker legend and champion will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Five-time NBA champion and beloved Laker guard Michael Cooper will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame.

Cooper was announced as a finalist for the 2024 class during NBA All-Star weekend in Indianapolis in February. However, his former teammate, friend, legendary basketball player, and Laker, Magic Johnson, couldn't help but share the news via X.

Johnson tweeted how proud he is of Cooper and how well-deserved he is of this accomplishment.

"I don't even know where to start! I tried to wait until Saturday…but I just can't hold the news, "I'm so so thrilled that my Showtime runnin "I'mte and one of my best friends Michael Cooper has been elected into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame!!

Cooper was the backbone of the Showtime Lakers in the 1980s. He helped lead the Lakers to five champions in that decade due to his outstanding defense and being a superstar in his role.

The Pasadena native is LA through and through. He was selected by the Lakers in the third round of the 1978 NBA draft and spent his entire 12-year career in the Purple and Gold. Alongside being a five-time Laker champion, he was named the eight-time All-Defensive team in his career and the 1986-1987 Defensive Player of the Year.

The former shooting guard averaged 8.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists in his career. He is the 31st player to wear a Lakers uniform and be elected into the Hall of Fame.

Well deserved, Coop!
