Lakers News: Anthony Davis A Finalist For Major League Accolade

It was revealed that Los Angeles Lakers All-Star center Anthony Davis had been a finalist for the latest NBA Western Conference Player of the Week honor Tuesday. Davis became a finalist alongside the Phoenix Suns' Devin Booker, the San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama, the Minnesota Timberwolves' Rudy Gobert and the Dallas Mavericks' Luka Dončić.

Davis and the other four finalists lost out on the award to Dončić's Mavericks teammate Kyrie Irving, who averaged 31.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 52.4% from the field. In the Eastern Conference, Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porziņģis won the award while the Orlando Magic's Paolo Banchero, the New York Knicks' Jalen Brunson, the Indiana Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton, and the Philadelphia 76ers' Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were nominees, via NBA Communications.

The Lakers star most recently won the award back on March 25. He also won the award twice during the 2022-2023 season.

Davis appeared in four games during the week in question, recording double-doubles as the Lakers went 3-1 during this span. Davis recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 128-111 win over the Toronto Raptors, 35 points and 18 rebounds in a 125-120 win against the Washington Wizards, and 22 points and 13 rebounds in a 116-97 win versus the Cleveland Cavaliers. He notched four points, four rebounds and three assists in the Lakers' most recent game against the Minnesota Timberwolves Sunday, but had to exit the game during the first quarter due to an eye injury.

The Lakers are set to play again on Tuesday night as they take on the Golden State Warriors, but Davis remains questionable due to his eye.
