Lakers News: Cause Discovered For Bronny James' Heart Trouble

LeBron James' eldest son suffered a cardiac arrest on July 24th.

Los Angeles Lakers great LeBron James' eldest son, 18-year-old USC freshman combo guard LeBron "Bronny" James Jr., incurred a cardiac arrest during an early morning workout at the Galen Center on July 24th.

Per Jeff Borzello of ESPN, the James family has issued an update on the root cause of the heart issue, following a comprehensive medical investigation that included a trip to Rochester, Minnesota's famed Mayo Clinic earlier this month. Bronny had to sit out a team jaunt overseas for a preseason exhibition, and his timeline for a return to action remains unclear. All told, it's fairly good news!

The full statement is below:

"After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James' sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified," the spokesperson said. "It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated.

"We are very confident in Bronny's full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future," the spokesperson added. "We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family's request for privacy."
