Dodgers Creating Special Free LA Jersey For "Lakers Day" In September

Two of Los Angeles' most beloved franchises are convening.

Your Los Angeles Lakers and your Los Angeles Dodgers have planned the perfect merch mash-up as the MLB season heats up this fall.

The Dodgers' official Twitter (or should we say X?) account has revealed that the club will gift the attendant Dodger Stadium faithful a special Lakers-themed free baseball jersey on September 1st, which has officially branded "Lakers Night" for the Boys in Blue.

How Lakers-core will these uniforms be getting, you ask?

We're so glad you did.

The exclusive, limited swag will pay tribute to late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant's two retired jersey numbers with a No. 8 (in honor of Bryant's jersey number from 1996-2006) on the front and a No. 24 (his digits from 2006-2016) on the back.

Bryant, a 6'6" shooting guard, spent all 20 of his Hall of Fame seasons with the Lakers. He was named an 18-time All-Star, a 15-time All-NBA honoree, and a 12-time All-Defensive Teamer for his efforts, appearing in seven NBA Finals with the team and winning five championships alongside Hall of Fame big men Shaquille O'Neal (with whom he won from 2000-02) and Pau Gasol (2009-10). Bryant was named the league's MVP in 2008, and the Finals MVP during his years with Gasol.

Across 1346 career regular season bouts, The Black Mamba posted averages of 25 points on .447/.329/.837 shooting splits, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists. He passed away in 2020 at the age of 41.
