Lakers News: Ex-Front Office Exec Expects Major Raise For Dennis Schröder This Summer

Should the Lakers retain the free agent point guard?

Just a few summers ago, point guard Dennis Schröder was supposed to get paid. However, his performance in the postseason left a lot to be answered and he ended up missing out on an opportunity. It led to all sorts of jokes about him "fumbling the bag" but Schröder worked and now enters free agency once again.

Schröder rejoined the Los Angeles Lakers this past season and said that he wanted to make things right with the organization due to how his time with the team ended previously. Well, Schröder did make things right and helped lead the team to the Western Conference Finals. Now he is in line for a big payday and NBA insider John Hollinger of The Athletic seems to agree.

"Schröder was a big part of the Lakers’ playoff run, offering surprisingly solid defense in addition to his periodic jolts of bench scoring. While he’s not everyone’s cup of tea as a decision-maker, he can make an open shot and is threatening enough off the dribble to demand attention.

Per The Athletic

Hollinger is projecting Schröder to make $11.7 million next season, which would be a major bump from this past year. LA would love to keep Schröder as head coach Darvin Ham loves him and he brings a certain level of intensity to the games each night.

They will have competition to retain the services of Schröder and he deserves to get paid. Nobody knows what his intentions are but surely it has to be to make up for the money that he missed out on over the last few years. The Lakers have a need at point guard and Schröder could very well help with that.

Hopefully Schröder is back with the Lakers for next season but right now, everything is up in the air.
