Former title-winning Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel is in line for one of the most coveted new jobs in the league.

Per John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix, Vogel numbers among five contenders for the heading coaching vacancy with the star-studded Phoenix Suns.

Earlier this spring, the Suns fired former head coach Monty Williams, who brought the team to a 2021 NBA Finals appearance, after Phoenix fell in six games to the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Gambadoro adds that the Suns front office, led by longtime LeBron James teammate James Jones, is set to interview Vogel tomorrow.

Vogel served as LA's head coach from 2019-22. During his first season (also the debut season of Anthony Davis in the purple and gold), the Lakers won their 17th, and most recent, NBA title. He was let go after Los Angeles' disastrous decision to offload depth in favor of a washed-up Russell Westbrook during the summer of 2021.

Per Rory Maher of Hoops Rumors, Vogel is reportedly competing with former Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse, former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers, current Phoenix assistant Kevin Young, Bucks associate head coach Charles Lee, and Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson.
