Los Angeles Lakers fans held their collective breath, as they have so many times, when star center Anthony Davis requested to be removed from the floor late in the first half of LA's playoff opener against the Memphis Grizzlies. Head coach Darvin Ham replaced him with power forward Rui Hachimura.

Davis departed for the team locker room to have his right shoulder examined, after colliding with All-Star Grizzlies power forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. in a hustle play for a rebound. Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the ailment is being described as a stinger, a nerve reaction to an impact.

He underwent further testing by LA's medical staff, and has now, mercifully, been cleared to return for the contest's second half, according to Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet.

Davis had logged an impressive 10 points, six boards, four blocks, two assists, and two steals through the contest's first two quarters. His Grizzlies counterpart, Jaren Jackson Jr., had scored 19 points in the same time frame to pace Memphis.

Per Jeff Stotts of In Street Clothes, stingers generally don't cause NBA players to sit out much, but can be quite painful.

This is incredibly encouraging news, as the Lakers would have been dead in the water for the postseason if The Brow had to miss extended time.
