Lakers News: LA Finishes High In 2024 BetMGM's Top Championship Odds
Early odds for the 2024 NBA championship have come out on BetMGM and the Lakers are tied for the fifth best odds at +1200. They are currently tied with the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors but still remain high up on the list.
I have some questions.
As of right now, the Mavericks are in a state of flux. Kyrie Irving is a free agent and may not return to the team and even if he does, they were a worse team after acquiring him. Maybe the odds makers know something we don't but putting Dallas on the same level as LA is interesting. Dallas missed the playoffs last season while the Lakers reached the Western Conference Finals and are expected to bring back most of the core.
For Golden State, I can somewhat understand it but again, the Lakers should be higher. We all saw the Lakers take down Golden State in the playoffs with a few blowouts as well. Like Dallas, nobody really knows what they will do this offseason so them being so high up is intriguing. But they make more sense to be towards the top due to their championship pedigree.
The Lakers will enter 2023 as one of the teams with the best odds to win it all. They should be seen as one of the favorites out West if they do bring back most of their core. LA was one of the better teams post trade deadline and it led them to being one of the final four teams left.
This offseason is crucial for the Lakers and one that they need to make sure to get right.
Obviously the newly-crowned champion Denver Nuggets, who swept the Lakers across four relatively close games in the Western Conference Finals, are considered the favorites to repeat.
