Lakers News: Altered All-Star Game Format Means Changes To Recent LeBron James Trend

Back to their roots.

The NBA announced earlier this week that the 2024 All-Star Game would revert the the the to the classic battle between East and West for this year's event in Indiana.

Such a change means that Los Angeles Lakers superstar and perennial team captain LeBron James won't have to worry about picking players playground-style after he'd done so the past six seasons.

James went against Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Giannis Antetokounmpo in the six years of the new-look All-Star game as the NBA searches for ways to make fans more interested in the exhibition.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver first introduced the new team selections back in 2018 when LeBron was still with the Cavaliers.

Now the league goes back to the East and West battle that dominated the game's exhibition special in February for this year and the foreseeable future.

If James goes to the 20th All-Star game of his storied career, this would be the first time he'd officially be on the Western Conference since becoming a Laker in 2019.

It's hard to imagine that this is James' sixth season in the purple and gold but he's continued to make history appropriately with the NBA's most historic franchise.

Last year, the four-time MVP earned another All-NBA nod, an All-Star captaincy role and the official title as the NBA's all-time leading scorer.

Popularity certainly plays a role in All-Star voting, but unlike other veteran players in the twilight of their careers, James' votes have been anything but sympathetic through his 20 years in the league.

The 6'9" forward already has nothing left to prove in his career but stringing together 20 straight All-Star seasons, no matter the format, would be quite the mark in his already legendary time in the NBA.
