Lakers News: Christian Wood Unpacks Steep Preseason Learning Curve Through 3 Games

It's all about reps.

Recent Laker signing Christian Wood admitted that his first few exhibition games in purple and gold haven't been his best showing.

Through another tough, albeit improved effort against Sacramento on Wednesday, the big man explained his thoughts to reporters about the preseason thus far.

LA beat the Kings thanks to D'Angelo Russell's 21-point effort but it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for all members of purple and gold.

Young guards Jalen Hood-Schifino and Max Christie both shot poorly from the field as the Lakers' search for backcourt depth behind Russell, Austin Reaves and Gabe Vincent continued.

As for the frontcourt, Wood's comments about rhythm rang true after 20 minutes of great play off the bench.

The former Maverick pitched in 13 points as a reserve which matched the totals from both Taurean Prince and Rui Hachimura in the starting lineup.

A more impressive story might be that Jaxson Hayes only managed five points and five rebounds in his own 20 minutes of action, possibly opening the door for Wood to become LA's starting center.

Both Lebron James and Anthony Davis took the night off and Wood certainly impressed in their stead.

Darvin Ham still has plenty of decisions to make on his suddenly loaded depth, but the showing from his frontcourt is a good problem to have.

Wood's preseason debut in the team's loss to Golden State wasn't his best showing, but the center has increased his scoring totals in both games since.

The lead-up to LA's anticipated 2024 season can't come soon enough and Wood, like Lakers fans everywhere, is eager to show his skills for Laker nation near and far.
