Lakers News: Columnist Ponders if LeBron James Could Win MVP at 39 Years Old

Would be quite the feat!

Lakers fans are well-aware that what they have been witnessing from LeBron James over these past couple of seasons is not normal. To think that he has a firm hold over the league ever since the mid 2000's and still maintains that hold as we near the mid 2020's truly says everything about his longevity.

There were times during LA's 2023 campaign that it looked like he was ready to crack. There was that stretch in the season where referees missed huge class that led to Lakers losing key games against the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics just to name a few and when it looked like LA had a good chance of trading for Kyrie Irving, the Dallas Mavericks got him instead.

Nonetheless, the purple and gold still made it to the Western Conference Finals and have revamped their roster over the summer to put together a squad that looks to win LA their 18th championship in franchise history.

Therefore, columnist Ernest Leo Hernandez believes that LeBron James could make a run for the Most Valuable Player Award in the 2023-2024 season. He did claim it as a hot take but broke down his reasoning as well.

"LeBron James turns 39 on December 30. As much as he tries to fight it, Father Time will eventually catch up, so this could be the last chance that LBJ could get another NBA MVP. Chasing Michael Jordan, James has four NBA MVPs and needs another to tie MJ to stir up the GOAT debate once again. With a better support cast this season, his assists should help him in his case for the MVP. The narrative of James reclaiming the MVP at 39 could also be an attractive story for the media to create."
