Lakers News: Crafty Veteran Guard Bought Out, Could He Fit With LA?

Would LA benefit from an intriguing wing?

Would your Los Angeles Lakers be open to moving on from The Spencer Dinwiddie Experience already?

Veteran shooting guard Shake Milton is getting bought out of his current contract by the Detroit Pistons, reports The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Milton had been on a two-season, $10 million deal that he initially inked with the Minnesota Timberwolves as a free agent in 2023. The second season of the deal, for 2024-25, was non-guaranteed. Milton's uninspiring 4.9 points on a .400/.264/.818 slash line, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists across 12.9 minutes, and he was flipped to Detroit in a deal that allowed the No. 1-seeded Timberwolves to acquire Monte Morris.

Across just six games with the bottom-feeding Pistons, the 6'5" swingman notched averages of 6.8 points on .423/.333/.667 shooting splits and 4.5 boards across 15.8 minutes a night. He's still just 27, and had been a key contributor on several Philadelphia 76ers clubs. Someone will take a flyer on him this season, but the Lakers seemingly burnished their backcourt with a Spencer Dinwiddie signing earlier in the buyout market blitz.

That said, Dinwiddie has been hard to watch of late, and just can't seem to find his footing on his hometown team. Milton plays a different position, but given the finite amount of minutes going around for LA, he'd essentially replace Dinwiddie in the team's lineup.
