Lakers News: Free Agent Shooting Guard Target Lands With Division Rival

Another solid addition to the team...

The Los Angeles Lakers missed out on another free agent target as guard Eric Gordon agreed to a contract with the division rival Phoenix Suns. LA had been interested in Gordon and was thought to possibly be making him an offer before they signed guard Gabe Vincent to a three-year deal.

Gordon averaged 11 points per game last season for the Clippers, shooting 42.3 percent from deep. He was acquired from the Houston Rockets prior to the trade deadline and was a wanted commodity this free agency.

Gordon now lands in the valley to play alongside stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. His ability to space the floor should help Phoenix as they are looking stronger with their depth after multiple quality bench signings. Gordon is a bit of a liability on defense however so this could impact how much playing time he sees for the Suns, especially in the postseason.

But nonetheless, this is a great get and it keeps him away from the Lakers in the Suns perspective. Gordon would have fit nicely alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis as a guard who effectively shoots the ball. He also is a former client of Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka so the connection was there but a deal never materialized.

Now LA will get to face off against Gordon this season and they will need to hone in on him at all times when on the court otherwise he will make them pay with his shooting ability.
