Lakers News: LA Beat Reporter Confident Team Will Re-Sign Star To Extension This Summer

No reason to panic in LA.

There's a lot of things that have been going right over the past few months for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The team made a run all the way to the Western Conference Finals in large part due to a reshuffling of the roster at the trade deadline, brought most of the team's core back into the fold during free agency, and look set up for another deep run next season.

With that out of the way, there is one rather significant task for the Lakers to accomplish in this so far successful offseason.

Star big man Anthony Davis will return for his fifth season with the team, but as things stand he only has two years left on his contract.

That can change though, as the eight time All-Star is eligible to sign a three-year, $167 million extension on August 4.

And longtime Lakers beat writer Dave McMenamin sees the two sides coming to an agreement this summer, as he said on Zach Lowe's "The Lowe Post" podcast.

“I am not too concerned about how this thing plays out, whether the max amount of years, the max amount of numbers are reached, that remains to be seen… Where things stand right now, I expect some sort of agreement to be reached.”

Signing the 31 year old Davis to an extension doesn't seem like much a question even with his injury history, and McMenamin is confident that the deal will get done.

Davis has been a key figure in the Lakers recent resurgence along with their assortment of quality role players, and he played extremely well in the team's run to an NBA championship in 2020.

It figures that Davis will remain with the franchise for the foreseeable future given that resume in LA, and it looks like it's just a matter of time before that becomes official.
