Lakers News: LA Misses Out On Signing Buyout Free Agent Patty Mills

The veteran point guard is heading to this Eastern Conference powerhouse.

Your Los Angeles Lakers have missed out on veteran point guard Patty Mills to rising Eastern Conference powerhouse the Miami Heat.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, NBA champion Patty Mills is planning to take his talents to South Beach.

Mills began the season with the Atlanta Hawks but was waived last week. The 35-year-old Australian guard spent most of his career with the San Antonio Spurs before signing as a free agent with the Brooklyn Nets in 2021. With San Antonio, Mills won a championship as a sharpshooting reserve against now-LA superstar forward LeBron James' Miami Heat in 2014.

He spent two seasons with the Nets before being traded to the Houston Rockets last summer, then traded again four days later to the Hawks.

The Lakers were in the running to land Mills when he was a free agent in 2021. They had another opportunity to land the former champion this buyout season. Instead, he will join the Heat, who always seem to be threats come playoff time.
