Over the past few years, specifically in Los Angeles, an injury to LeBron James meant the Lakers would either plummet in the standings and he would have to carry an enormous load upon return or the season would simply end early for him. We saw it in James' first year in the purple and gold when a Christmas Day injury to his groin led to his squad dropping from the top four to out of the playoff race. It continued last season when he sprained his ankle and the future Hall of Famer elected to sit out despite being in the scoring title race.

However, after some huge acquisitions at the 2023 trade deadline, the Lakers have a whole new aura surrounding them and it looks like James can properly recover from his foot injury. Led by D'Angelo Russell's 28 points, LA beat the Raptors Friday night and improve to 4-2 without their 38-year-old superstar.

The King shared his appreciation for the squad and first reaction to their victory on Twitter immediately after the game.

This energy from James on social media is completely different than just before the trades were made and Lakers fans should be very excited to see how the team improves a step further with their leader back.

Going back to Russell, the southpaw guard suited up for the Lakers again following a six-game absence due to an ankle injury. He did not look like the time off fazed him at all, drilling three's all fourth quarter and controlling the game at his own pace. In post-game media coverage with Spectrum Sportsnet, he gave a clear warning to the rest of the league.
