Lakers News: Young Warriors Champ Details Meeting LA Idol

A very special moment!

Kobe Bryant was able to inspire and mentor a number of the young stars that we watch dominate today's NBA. Kyrie Irving, Devin Booker, Jayson Tatum and so many others have raved about what the Los Angeles Lakers legend was able to teach them both on and off the court and it is clear that he had a mission to continue helping the game evolve even after his playing days.

Jonathan Kuminga was among those lucky enough to not catch Bryant during his career but still share a special moment with him. Kuminga, 20-year-old forward for the Golden State Warriors, spoke to Yahoo Sports and revealed that he met the Black Mamba when he was in high school.

Kyrie Irving was like my mentor in high school,” Kuminga said. "We went to his game when I was in high school, and right after the game, we went through the tunnel and we saw Kobe come out. It was always my dream to meet Kobe. He saw me from far away because I was a high-ranked kid in high school at the time, and I was surprised because he called my name."

“I was like, ‘Are you serious? Is Kobe calling my name right now?’ Then he walked over and took pictures with me and my teammates. I think we DM’d each other after a couple of days, and we were supposed to workout together in the summer. Then that tragedy happened a week later.”

Kuminga is one of the premier young wings in the league right now and even though playing on a deep Warriors team hasn't allowed him to fully showcase his talent, he is still viewed as a critical part of their future. He has averaged nine points and three rebounds in both of his first two NBA seasons and looks to carry Mamba Mentality with him moving forward!
