Los Angeles Lakers vs. Memphis Grizzlies Predictions for Game 2 of the Series
Game 1 between these teams was closely contested, until the end of the fourth quarter. Between the excellent performances of Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura, the Lakers were able to use their depth to their advantage in the closing minutes. Five different Lakers scored at least 19 points and LeBron James seemed to take a backseat to the hot hands of Reaves, Hachimura and Anthony Davis.
However, more importantly, the Lakers didn’t have to worry about Ja Morant in clutch time since the superstar suffered a hand injury that kept him out of the last few minutes of the game. Morant was still in a lot of pain following the game and the Grizzlies stated that his status was in jeopardy for Game 2.

The Lakers opened as the underdog once again, but this time, the line seems wrong. Based on Memphis’ reports on Morant, I would be pretty surprised if the superstar suits up for this game. They would rather him get the extra rest and be at 100% for Game 3 than 40% for Game 2 with the possibility of making the injury worse. Without Morant, Memphis lacks their key play maker, and their bench isn’t strong enough to compete with the Lakers.
Ever since the trade deadline, the Los Angeles defense has been on another level. Jarred Vanderbilt has been excellent on the defensive end of the floor while D’Angelo Russell has been a fix that the Lakers needed on offense. If the Lakers can get another solid performance from Reaves or Hachimura, they put themselves in an excellent position to steal both games in Memphis. I’ll take the points with Los Angeles and back the Lakers +1.5 on Wednesday.
