Lakers News: LA’s Star Free Agent Target Reportedly Hopes To Retire With Next Team

The All-Star is looking for "a place that feels like home"

One of the top players in this years free agent class is a looking for a team with which he can end his career. There is a possibility that your Los Angles Lakers could be that team.

All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving is once again on the search for somewhere new to play. Irving's contract with the Dallas Mavericks expires on July 1 and he is free to sign with any team.

Irving is going into his 13th season and is going to be on his sixth team. As Kyrie moves towards the tail end of his career, he is looking for somewhere he could retire, per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN (h/t to Bleacher Report).

The Lakers have been linked to Irving all offseason. It is known that Irving is willing to team up with LeBron James once again. The two won a championship together with the Cleveland Cavaliers Cleveland in 2016.

It was reported during the NBA Finals, that Irving had reached out to James discussing a trade that would send LeBron to Dallas. Nothing came about that report, but it does show that the two want to reunite.

Since leaving the Cavaliers in 2017, Irving has not spent more than three years with a team. When he left the Celtics (another team with which he had publicly expressed a desire to retire one day), Irving caused a scene as he requested a trade out halfway through his contract.

The same scenario happened in Brooklyn when Irving was eventually traded to Dallas in the middle of last season.

It seems as if the point guard is looking for a new team that he will be happy with for the next couple of years.
